I Am My Own

Were I’m from we live cautiously under certain rules
you can’t escape destiny as we live through expectations
like an unwanted pregnancy life full of complications
movement forward halted as fate holds our ankles in shackles
in darkness as the strong wind blows away our candles
our world in darkness as the light can’t get through
the bad overshadows the good, youth paralysed by the hood
for the young blood it’s a one way system straight to hell
still need tucking in but I’m spending a night in a jail cell
statistically they expect me to fail
when the going gets tough they expect me to bail
like the weather the rain shows my pain
but like spring beats winter I will prevail/
when you get kicked down so low you can’t go further
aint but one option left but to rise up
show your strength and determination to get up
your actions will wise up as you show you’ve grown up
expectations defeated as you rise to the challenge
show the world no one but you controls your destiny
life is a series of negative and positive choices
you hear the voices but do you take it’s advice/
I was born in a world were wrong is right
were people appreciated the dark instead of the light
forced to be savages to survive
so can you blame us for the way we live
I will conquer adversity as I create my own legacy
legitimacy will bring order to the democracy
I stand here not a product of your beliefs
but as a product of my wishes.
